Real Programmers use . . .

Postby Syntax » Fri Feb 01, 2008 4:20 pm

This made me horse laugh. It's kinda niche, but I'm pretty sure there are a few that will git it on this board.

I had issue with the cat bit. Cat only outputs. Not to be picky or spoil the humor, but it still nags.

I don't get it nearly as much as you guys do, but I still found the "magnetized needle and a steady hand" and the butterfly cosmic ray thing very funny.
Your anguish sustains me.

yeah, it gets VERY scary when an average programmer tries either of those ways... "Why doesn't it work? What is wrong with your server/network?" Me "Uh, did you check your code?" "Of course not! My code works!"

But of course you get the average sys admin who goes "It's YOUR code". And you go, no, it's been in production for over a year without problems. You built a new server. You forgot to install something and that is why the error message says exactly that...

Then you have to do THEIR work for them to figuire out what is missing and THEN convince them that they need to actually put it on the new server.

Sorry, had to show the other side of the "average programmer" bit. :) (Yes, this happened recently, ie. last week at work.... )

See, that is the problem... You are not an average programmer who assumes it is the server or network without basis (ESPECIALLY after the programmer makes a change and doesn't bother to check), and I am not the average admin who says to check your code when we have been changing stuff.
